Alice Viola Gerrard, 83, of Hilo, formerly of Honolulu, died Feb. 3 at home. Born in Honolulu, she was a retired secretary for Castle & Cooke on Oahu. No services scheduled. Survived by sons, Gary Gerrard of Seattle and Ronald (Connie) Gerrard of Jasper, Ind.; daughters, Lana (Peter) Hassett of Camarillo, Calif., and Beverly Gerrard of Spokane, Wash.; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Joseph “Joe” Charles Hooper, 82, of Maihi, Honalo, died Feb. 6 at Kona Community Hospital. Born in Honalo, he was a former mechanic for Mitamura Service Station and Tanaka’s Chevron, and former landscaper for King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel. Visitation 8-9 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 16 at Kona Faith Center in Captain Cook. Service at 9 a.m. Luncheon to follow at Daifukuji Soto Mission. Survived by son, Mario (Daphne) Hooper Sr.; daughters, Charlyn (Anthony) DeMello and Jasmine (John) Staup; hanai son, Chance Hooper; sister, Violet Hooper; all of Maihi, Honalo; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Richard Kinser Taylor, 64, of Na‘alehu died Jan. 23 at Kona Community Hospital. Born in San Francisco, he was a Vietnam War combat veteran and retired as both a commercial fisherman and a truck driver for Taylor Built Construction. Visitation 9-11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 23 at Haili Congregational Church in Hilo. Service at 11 a.m. Survived by mother, Marguarite Tenne Taylor of Na‘alehu; sons, Ernesto “Bodie” Kuahuia of Hilo and Richard “Keo” Taylor of Arizona; daughters, Ku‘uipo (Naea) Taylor-Lindsey of Hilo and Donnetta (Jonathan) Taylor of Hilo; brother, Dave Hubbard Taylor of Na‘alehu; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Lillian Okayo Yamada, 90, of Hilo died Jan. 31 at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born in Koloa, she was an educational assistant at Waimano Home School in Pearl City, Oahu, and a member of Kinoole Baptist Church. Celebration of life 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 15, 2013 at Life Care Center of Hilo.
